Integrated Farming System for better livelihood through participatory approach in Semi Arid area

i) Demonstration on fruits crops, creeper vegetables, pulses/oilseeds and cereal crops through participatory approach at farmer’s field in small area [< 1 acre]. Growing the area suitable fruit crops such as mango [Mangifera Indica] and lemon [Citrus sp.]  along with pulses such as black gram, green gram, oilseed namely groundnut and creeper  vegetables such as beans, bitter gourd, bottle gourd etc with turmeric cultivation etc as a livelihood generation option for tribal communities in semi arid area.

ii) Field demonstration on vegetables cultivation in small area (0.05-0.10 ha) under the ploy house as well as in open field  for vegetables like Brinjal, Tomato, Chilly, Clusterbean, Okra  etc. in order to study the economic viable on vegetable cultivation in smaller area as compared to mono-cropping

The low cost technologies initiated under the  Integrated Farming System are as

a)

Efficient water management

:

Area specific gravity base drip irrigation

b)

IPM

:

Application  of  fruit fly traps for the 1st time in the area

c)

Organic fertilizer

:

Application of vermicompost

Developed By: Viksat

Current Status:

At present the project is in second year. Till August 2020 total number of 200 demonstrations had been conducted and total number of 315 farmers had been trained on cultivation of fruit crops and intercropping with fruit crops.

Five poly houses had been introduced for the first time in the tribal project villages and the farmers has been trained on the cultivation of vegetable crops and raising nursery of the crops in polyhouse.

The expected cost of cultivation is being documented and analyzed for wide replication of the developed model.

This technology is under assessment and are planned to make it context specific and reliable.
